Queen Elizabeth I assumed the throne of England on June 22, 1558. This
was not apocalyptic. But as the inauguration of the Elizabethan era,
today's date is the best one available to note an anonymous pamphlet
widely circulated around that time: "On the Ende of This World and the
Second Coming of Christ: A Comfortable and Most Necessarie Discourse for
These Miserable and Dangerous Dayes".
A distinguishing feature
of this publication is the fact that it has the second-longest title of
any doomsday tract (at least known of by me - see June 12 for the other
one).
