June 19: Heads up!

On June 19, 2004, the asteroid 99942 Apophis was discovered. At first it appeared that this body’s orbit through the solar system could bring it into collision with Earth in 2029. Happily, further observations have ruled this out. The asteroid’s January 9, 2013 flyby will allow even more precise calculations of its future “orbital resonance” with Earth.
