April 9: Nanomachines Turn the World to Grey Goo

This month in 2000, Wired Magazine published "Why the Future Doesn't Need Us", an editorial by co-founder and chief scientist of Sun Microsystems Bill Joy. Joy warned that the advent of nanobots could lead to the incorporation of all carbon-containing matter on earth in a runaway scenario once described by Eric Drexler as "Grey Goo".
