William Sedgwick (1610-69) was an English Puritan clergyman who picked
up the nickname "Doomsday Sedgwick" after insisting from the pulpit that
the world would end within a fortnight. He'd first heard the prophecy
from a woman in nearby Cambridgeshire and become convinced she was
correct. The world did not end on the appointed night, although there
was a pretty big storm.
